Planning Approval to Demolish an Existing House in Sutton to Build a Contemporary, Sustainable Home

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Dyer Grimes Architecture has obtained planning approval to demolish an existing build with little architectural merit to make way for a sustainable, contemporary two-storey build with five bedrooms.

While demolitions can be contentious, Sutton Council was convinced that our new design would be of significantly higher quality than the existing house, which made poor use of one of the largest sites on the street. As nearby projects had a similarly contemporary style to our proposals, there was little concern about impact to the streetscape.

The new house will provide 523sqm of floor space compared to 375m in the original. This generous space allows for light-filled, open plan spaces and for all five bedrooms to have en suites. Elsewhere on the site, the clients will also enjoy a separate garage with matching design to the main structure.
